This new title from developer Purple Lamp Studios and publisher THQ Nordic will allow players to experience an original adventure of the world’s most popular and beloved yellow sponge. Although he was already seen in action a couple years ago in Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, the new game features graphics with a slightly different style and a whole new level of 3D platforming action for all fans of the show created by Stephen Hillenburg.

SpongeBob’s Wishes

In this new 3D platformer, SpongeBob and Patrick Star meet a fortune-teller who gives them a bottle of Mermaid’s Tears that, according to legends, can fulfill any wish. The protagonists get so excited that they start making too many wishes, which causes a disaster in time and space endangering their Bikini Bottom friends, so they will have to make every effort to rescue them from a mysterious place. Unlike Battle For Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, this new adventure will only have SpongeBob as a playable character. Patrick Star becomes a balloon due to the pair’s wishes, so he will accompany SpongeBob at all times and help players throughout the game. If players fall off a cliff, Patrick can will fly there and save them. In addition, he will assist SpongeBob when he is low on health and provide advice.

The yellow sponge is going to have to face a lot of enemies. Each world will have a great rival to defeat in order to get things back to normal, many of which are other SpongeBob characters adapted to the specific world, such as Sandy Cheeks in Kill Bill style or an angry, gigantic Gary that has eaten tons of sugar from Halloween candy. These are only a few out of many other cases, as can be seen in the latest trailer released a few weeks ago. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake draws inspiration from more recent games in the genre to offer a refreshing experience that will focus on SpongeBob.

The Different Worlds Of SpongeBob SquarePants

The game will take place in seven different worlds and for each of them themes based on the most famous episodes have used. The same thing happens with the different unlockable or collectible elements. The settings include a pirate world, medieval, prehistoric, and Western, as well as a Karate zone based on SpongeBob’s martial arts escapades with Sandy, where players will unlock the Karate Kick skill. This time, the Krusty Krab chef will have more skills, such as a karate kick and the ability to roll over large rocks. Along with these, there will be a big emphasis on collecting special costumes, with more than 30 options available that are largely based on outfits SpongeBob has worn in the Nickelodeon show.

Purple Lamp Studios, which was already responsible for creating the successful remake of Battle For Bikini Bottom, has combined elements from the most favorite episodes of the series with completely new story elements to create a new adventure for a tried and true character. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is a modern take on the franchise that looks interesting enough to offer plenty of fun for anyone interested in stepping into SpongeBob’s shoes.

The game will be 8 hours long in total and will feature a lot of cut scenes recorded with the original cast of actors from the series. Those downloading the game from the Nintendo eShop should note that they will need to have 5.4 GB of free memory on their consoles; the title will also be sold in physical format. There’s a collector’s edition for the biggest fans of the Nickelodeon character, which will be available when the game is released. It costs $249.99 and includes a standard copy of the game, a Cosmic Victory statue, an inflatable Patrick Star, a BFF Amulet with necklace, a set of four miniature bouncy balls, a set of four placemats, the downloadable content “Costume Pack” and a special box.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake releases on January 31 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
