One key aspect of Evil Genius 2 is that it allows the player to choose from five geniuses and select the perfect island to build the lair of their dreams. Each genius has a unique set of traits and strengths that will impact which lair location is the best for them. Choosing an ideal setup for their genius will allow for the best gameplay experience and most successful attempt at building an evil operation to take over the world. These are the best lair options for each evil genius.
Caine Key - Best For Emma
Caine Key offers the player the benefit of one way in and one way out. They’ll have extra security, with agents only being able to enter through the front, except for those that can teleport in. Due to its shape, this island is also referred to as the Donut. It features a helipad in the center that is easily accessible. This setup provides the player with complete control over access to the corridors in the lair.
This island is ideal for Emma because of the one way in option because there are no surprises. As a former spy, this goes a long way for her character. The downside to this island is the limited space the player will start with on the first floor. They’ll have to build economically sized rooms to start with but can later expand into larger rooms as the game progresses. While this island is the perfect choice for Emma, it will actually work well for any of the geniuses because of its secure layout.
Montañas Gemelas - Best For Zalika Or Red Ivan
The island with the most diggable space is Montañas Gemelas, although it will be a challenge for the player to maximize their use of all the space due to the shape of the island. It is two sections connected by a stone bridge, which functions as an effective defensive choking point. Zalika is an excellent match for this island because of her research boost. The player will find they need stairs more quickly when they choose this island than any other island because of the way its laid out.
With the two separate sections of the island, the player can isolate their valuable assets past the choke point and keep their less vulnerable assets on the front side of it. In addition, because of the island’s defensible choke point, this makes an excellent location to build Red Ivan’s lair. The player can make it so that all agents need to traverse the long hallway at the choke point, where the Minions or even Red Ivan with his powerful weapon can destroy them as they come.
Crown Gold - Best For Max
While Crown Gold offers the least amount of diggable space of all the islands, it is definitely enough for Max’s operation. It also boasts a solid layout that allows the player a very easy start. The beaches on this island also distract tourists, keeping them satisfied with the island overall. It features gold veins that the player can use for easy access to quickly boost their financing.
The significant downside to this island is the threat level. It is highly vulnerable with the lowest threat level being medium. However, as the player builds up their lair, they can create an excellent spot at the top of the island from which Max can lord over his Minions.
Icicle Point - Best For Polar Or Red Ivan
With the release of the Oceans Campaign Season Pass, the player gained access to Polar and her unique lair location, Icicle Point. What’s great about this lair is the multi-level helipad and the cave system that makes using stairs obsolete. This cave system allows the Minions to teleport from one cave entrance to the next. The downside is that agents can do this, too. That being said, the player will need to set up trap corridors and guard outposts at the mouths of the cave entrances.
When choosing this island for their lair, players will have to consider that first they need the DLC to access it. Second, it’s very challenging for the player to extend the casino to the back door, requiring traps instead. A third consideration is the fact that it’s cold. However, this cold will help keep Red Ivan’s nuclear generators from constantly relighting. As such, it makes a third alternative for his lair, as players can choose from the Donut, Montañas Gamelas, and Icicle Point to succeed with this genius.
