The battle with Peter D’Abano is one such fight. It uses familiar, time-honored boss mechanics to deliver a satisfying experience. It has Jesse battling in an actual pool of blood, assailed by a terrifying otherworldly demon that flies, claws, and summons undead minions. It’s a quintessential boss fight, a standard for games in this genre like Darkwatch, which Evil West bears a strong resemblance to. Here’s how players can emerge victorious.

How to Beat Peter D’Abano
The fight with D’Abano involves a lot of touch-and-go combat. He has a wide set of attacks, many of which are triggered by Jesse being a certain distance away from him. The name of the game is getting in for big melee attacks where possible, and then backing off to recover health and nail him with some well-timed shots worthy of Jesse’s edgy gunslinger vibe.

D’Abano’s Moves
The main moves to watch out for when fighting D’Abano are his Leap, Grapple, and Recovery. They’re his bread and butter, and avoiding them is necessary for defeating him.
Leap: When Jesse is out of range of D’Abano’s melee attacks, D’Abano will either start using medium range spells or he’ll use Leap to close the gap. If he gets the drop on Jesse, it’ll deal significant damage and stagger him. Always keep an eye on him to know when he starts to Leap, then dodge to get out of the way. Grapple: When in melee range, D’Abano will at some point attempt a Grapple. He’ll stand up tall and expand his wings wide while flashing brightly before he does. During the few seconds it takes him to clamp down, Jess can kick him to interrupt the move. If he does pull it off though, he suplexes Jesse into the ground for huge damage. Recovery: When D’Abano raises up into the air with a twirl and starts pulsing out waves of blood, he’s recovering his health. Jesse needs to shoot him three times to interrupt this skill.
Additional Tips
D’Abano has other moves too, but most can be handled with some basic tips and tricks for Evil West. Most can be dodged and some can be interrupted with a well-aimed rifle shot. He can be staggered by uppercut and cannonball attacks, but not repetitively.

The last thing to watch out for when fighting Peter D’Abano is his minions. At 50% health, he flies up again and summons a wave of Infected Vessels. He only does this once; if he recovers over 50% health and then drops below it again, he won’t do it again. The vessels don’t actually need to be dealt with, though usually it is better to kill weaker enemies first. Instead, they can be corralled into a group and kited around while fighting D’Abano. However, if Jesse’s health ever gets low, the player can take the vessels out with a Coup de Grâce to get health pickups.
