Speaking with the Detroit Free Press about publishing a social media tribute, Burleson shared these thoughts on Johnson’s future.
“I don’t think it’s done,” Burleson said. “Nothing’s official. Yeah, I didn’t (post anything). so I’m waiting. And maybe that’s the fan in me. Maybe it’s like being a fan of Tupac. I don’t think he’s dead yet. Until you prove that to me, I still think he’s in Cuba. Calvin’s coming back. Tupac’s alive. That’s a wrap.”
Burleson, who attended Monday’s media night at Super Bowl 50, admitted Johnson doesn’t look the same.
“I do know this: He’s tired,” Burleson told USA Today. “Physically, he gives so much to the sport. Emotionally, when you’ve given so much … it could be fatigue, on and off the field.”
Burleson says he and Johnson have communicated since reports surfaced but not directly about Megatron’s possible retirement.
